My train ride - Part 18

Salam...hi all

I’m back on the blog!

It’s been a crazy 2 weeks since I last upload a posting. I've been so busy with work, family issues, personal issues and at the same time trying to organize a re-union! A full plate and I almost ‘vomit blood’!

Last Thursday I took the train from Damai to Dang Wangi station – my usual route. The train was fairly empty at that time. And as I boarded the train; someone gave “salam’ to me…

Guy: Assalamualaikum

Me: Alaikummussalam

Guy: How are you sir? You still remember me?

Me: (I paused and was trying very hard to recall his face; a very young Middle Eastern guy. Who is this kid? He seems comfortable trying to start a conversation with me) I'm sorry. I really can’t recall. Have we met before?

Guy: We met about 2 months ago. You were standing next to me in the train and I was in the middle of trying to memorize Yasin. Remember?

Me: Masyallah…yes…yes…now I remember. Wow…that’s like 2 months ago huh..?

Guy: Yes…it’s been a long time…

Me: So, did you manage to memorize Yasin now?

Guy: Alhamdulillah…yes sir…Insyallah…after almost 2 months

Me: Alhamdulillah…good for you. You should be proud of yourself. I'm happy for you…

Guy: Thank you sir. What about you? Did you do it?

Me: (When we first met I did mentioned to him that I’m also trying to do the same – memorize Yasin) Alhamdulillah…I did…but it took me a longer time. Almost 3 months. 83 verses are definitely not easy to memorize but Insyallah…I finally did it...actually we both did it! (We smile…)

We disembark at the same station. And we continue chatting while walking out.

Me: So, what next? Any plans to memorize another Surah?

Guy: I’m not sure…I’m contemplating now. But very likely I’m going to try to memorize Al Baqarah…

Me: That’s 286 verses! Hmmmm….I don’t know my friend…it took me 3 months for Yasin…it’ll probably take me forever to memorize Baqarah… (We laughed…)

As we reached at the main entrance of the station; we went separate ways…we exchanged phone numbers so that we can update each other on our achievements…

Me: I’m glad that we bump into each other again. I wish you all the best on your next project. Let’s keep intouch yah..

Guy: My pleasure sir…Insyallah we meet again soon…

Me: Insyallah…

Guy: Assalamualaikum

Me: Alaikummussalam….

This is one of the reason I enjoyed the train so much. I bump into people that I’m just amazed with their talent and abilities. To memorize Yasin is not an easy feat. I’ve tried and it took me 3 months and that is by being discipline on reciting the ‘surah’ on a daily basis.

To memorize Al Baqarah? Oh my….it didn't even cross my mind at this present moment.

But I’m sure; if I put my heart on it…Insyallah (am I kidding myself….? Allah knows best...) I’m also very sure that there’s a specific proven technique or easier method on how to memorize versus from the Quran of which I’ve yet to learn.

Moral of the story: Nothing is impossible if you put your heart on whatever you want to achieve.

To Syeikh Zayeed if you are reading this; I’m glad we got to know each other.

You inspired me…
